California School of the Arts - 9th to 12th Grade
Course Description:

Grading Categories & Percentages:
Writing Activities/Participation: 30% of the grade
During class periods, participation will be measured by a combination of in-class activities, full-class and small group discussions, and engagement with the material. They should be submitted through Schoology, either in PDF of Word.
WordPress Community Posts: 40% of the grade
One aspect of this class is that we will create a WordPress blog page. On the first day of class, we will create a WordPress page, which we will use every week in the second half of class (8th period). These Blogposts are intended to be used to engage with different communities.
Major Writing Assignments
Over the course of the semester, you will be asked to write three major writing assignments (Open Letter, Rhetorical Analysis, and Autoethnography). We will define each assignment as they come up, each with its own guidelines and grading requirements. The due dates go as follows:
Open Letter: due 9/23
Rhetorical Analysis: due 10/21
Autoethnography: due 12/9
Conservatory Retake Policy: When necessary, a student will have two weeks to retake or redo an assignment. After that, the initial grade will stand.
School Extra Credit Policy: The concept of extra credit work goes against our beliefs about learning and assessment. The remedy for improving grades is to complete the work already assigned and then focus on reassessment opportunities.
Late/Missing Work: Late/Missing work will be accepted throughout the semester. For activities and assignments, any late work will be given half credit after the initial due date. For the Major Writing Assignments, students will lose one point off the grading scale for each unit it is late (example: If you turn in Unit 1’s writing assignment during Unit 2, the max score you can receive is 4 points).
All Creative Writing assignments are to be submitted on Schoology
