Grading Categories & Percentages:
Writing Activities/Participation: 50% of the grade
During class periods, participation will be measured by a combination of in-class activities, full-class and small group discussions, and engagement with the material. They should be submitted through Schoology, either in PDF of Word.
Major Writing Assignments: 50 % of the grade
Over the course of the semester, there will be four major writing assignments, one for each unit of the semester. These assignments will be graded on creativity and effort. They should be submitted through Schoology, either in PDF of Word. The units go as follows:
Unit 1: Flash Fiction - The goal of the unit is to write a Flash Fiction piece, 1000 words or less, due Tuesday, September 14th by 5 pm.
Unit 2: Micro Fiction - The goal of the unit is to write a piece of Micro Fiction, 100 words or less, due Tuesday, October 12th by 5 pm.
Unit 3: Flash Fiction Forms - The goal of the unit is to write a piece of Flash Fiction in a form we studied through this unit, due Tuesday, November 9th by 5 pm.
Unit 4: Final - The goal of the unit is to create a new piece (Flash Fiction or Micro Fiction) due Tuesday, December 7th by 5 pm.
Conservatory Retake Policy: When necessary, a student will have two weeks to retake or redo an assignment. After that, the initial grade will stand.
School Extra Credit Policy: The concept of extra credit work goes against our beliefs about learning and assessment. The remedy for improving grades is to complete the work already assigned and then focus on reassessment opportunities.
All Conservatory Assignments are submitted on Schoology
Late/Missing Work: Late/Missing work will be accepted throughout the semester. For activities and assignments, any late work will be given half credit after the initial due date. For the Major Writing Assignments, students will lose one point off the grading scale for each unit it is late (example: If you turn in Unit 1’s writing assignment during Unit 2, the max score you can receive is 4 points).
